You don’t deserve your money!

Sep 15 2011 Published by under 2010 Elections

Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D IL-9 I know. Some of you get up in the morning, dress, grab a quick bite or maybe a cup of coffee, and head to work. Or, perhaps, you work odd hours. Sometimes long days. Maybe you work a second job to help make ends meet. I’ve done all of those things. Perhaps you have too, or still are. But, whatever the circumstances, you work to earn your pay. Only, you don’t deserve it. Really. Check with Jan Schakowsky, the Democrat who represents Illinois’ 9th district, who was speaking on WLS Radio : I’ll put it this way. You don’t deserve to keep all of it and it’s not a question of deserving because what government is, is those things that we decide to do together. Now, don’t you feel ashamed of yourself? Thinking that the money you earned is yours. Or that you deserve it. Thank goodness we have Democrats to set us straight.

Horrors! Republicans wants illegal things to be crimes! The brutes!

Jun 01 2011 Published by under 2010 Elections

DNC Chair Wasserman Schultz is claiming that Republicans want to consider being an illegal alien a crime. Oh, the humanity! The horror! The … what’s that again? [ Direct link ] Yes, she’s appalled that Republicans would want people who are in this country illegally to be considered … illegal. Well, well, well. Let’s look up “illegal” in the dictionary. Merriam-Webster. Not Urban Dictionary. That’s useful for looking up words and phrases you hear on Red Eye. But for regular words that normal people use, Merriam-Webster will do. illegal : adj (ˌ)i(l)-ˈlē-gəl not according to or authorized by law : unlawful, illicit Synonyms : criminal, felonious, illegitimate, illicit, lawless, unlawful, wrongful Antonyms : lawful, legal, legitimate And those evil, evil Republicans want illegals to be considered the first word listed by Merriam-Webster as a synonym: criminal. Can you imagine. We did some checking. And she’s right. And not only that, here are some other things Republicans consider to be true that are contrary to her and the Democrats way of thinking. Besides being somewhere illegally being a crime. Fire is hot. Water is wet. Sky is blue. Women have secrets . Ice is cold. Grass is green. Diamonds are hard. Circles are round. Bacon is yummy. Roses are red. Violets are purples. Sugar is sweet. So’s maple surple . Ducks quack. It must be nice to be that stupid and still get paid.

Latest Indicator of Racism: Questioning Obama’s Intellect

Apr 28 2011 Published by under 2010 Elections

As the White House deals a devastating blow to one Obama conspiracy theory, leave it to leftists to dig up another one to browbeat allegedly-bigoted conservatives with. At the Daily Beast , pseudo-feminist Michelle Goldberg “ traces the far-right history of the claim ” that something funny’s going on with Barack Obama’s academic background: Claims about Obama’s educational history date back to September 2008, when The Wall Street Journal attacked him for not releasing his school records , writing in an editorial, “Some think his transcript, if released, would reveal Mr. Obama as a mediocre student who benefited from racial preference.” Since then, Orly Taitz, queen of the birthers , has developed elaborate theories about Obama’s college years. As Taitz argues, Obama himself acknowledged that he was directionless when he started college. How, then, did he get himself accepted into the Ivy League? Despite purporting to refute the right-wing “fever swamps,” Goldberg won’t actually reference the WSJ piece again, so it’s worth mentioning that it makes substantive points, among them that the ambiguity of Obama’s college days doesn’t square with the prominence of his personal story in his claim to fame. And as Andy McCarthy points out , Obama has a habit of modifying details of his biography for different audiences. (Ace has more solid analysis of Obama’s college days here .) But not a peep about any of this from Goldberg. Instead of addressing what serious Obama critics have said, she spends the next couple paragraphs shooting down the theories of Orly Taitz, an especially destructive Birther attorney , who speculates that Obama attended Columbia as a foreign exchange student, attended for a mere nine months instead of two years, and even that he got into Harvard Law thanks to the machinations of a Saudi prince. Whatever the fact-to-crap ratio of Taitz’s allegations may be (the Saudi connection seems outlandish, but the explanation of the National Student Clearinghouse rep, who says Taitz got bad results from submitting queries to NSC’s database incorrectly, doesn’t seem adequate either), it’s ultimately a sideshow. The point is, Goldberg is making clowns like Orly Taitz the face of the opposition rather than McCarthy or the Wall Street Journal editorial board because she wants to delegitimize their argument without addressing it. Why? Why else —race-baiting: It’s easy enough to see why this particular narrative has endured. Not only does it position the president as a Muslim Manchurian candidate with longtime ties to agents of the caliphate, but it also assures resentful whites that this seemingly brilliant black man isn’t so smart after all. In that sense, it’s of a piece with the right-wing obsession with Obama’s use of a teleprompter, and with the widespread suspicion that he didn’t really write the eloquent Dreams From My Father , a claim Trump recently made at a Tea Party rally. Obama, in this view, is both sinister and stupid, canny enough to perpetrate one of the biggest frauds in American history but still the ultimate affirmative-action baby. Trump is clearly not as intelligent as Obama, but he’s not an idiot, either. When he blows this particular dog whistle, he knows exactly what the Republican base is hearing. No, the Right’s desire to knock Obama’s brain down a peg is a reaction to the endless mainstream media narrative that conservatives and Republicans are morons, while Obama is a genius (indeed, look no further than Goldberg’s own unsupported claim that Donald Trump’s intellect “clearly” pales in comparison to The One’s). To demonstrate the absurdity of claiming this is about Obama’s race, let’s perform a little thought experiment. Imagine for a moment that instead of black Democrat President Barack Obama, we currently have white Democrat President Barry Osborn, who, aside from his racial and ethnic background, is identical to Obama in every way—same handling of the economy , same healthcare plan , same treatment of Israel , and the same positions on abortion , guns , etc. Then take any of the claims listed above—the president isn’t that bright, he didn’t write his book, he’s helpless without a teleprompter. Regardless of their particular merits, simply ask yourself: do you really think we’d be treating Osborn any more favorably than Obama? Do you think we’d pull these punches against a white ideological opponent, or be more open to left-wing ideas just because they came from a white leftist? Of course not. Leftists understood from the start that Obama’s skin color would make a potent weapon for smearing opponents instead of engaging their ideas, which is exactly what Michelle Goldberg has done here.

Human Shields: 8 Ways to Use Children for Political Gain

Apr 03 2011 Published by under 2010 Elections

As a rule of thumb, whenever you hear a progressive declaring, “It’s for the children!” chances are, there are children within striking distance who are going to suffer. In the super-secret playbook of the Left, using children heads up several chapters. Want to nationalize health care? Find a sick kid to throw in front of some microphones! Want to push through idiotic environmental legislation that will hurt the economy? Run commercials featuring crying, scared children. Want to spend more taxpayer money on giveaway programs? Find another hard-luck story and hide behind them so no one will notice the earmarks and pig grease leaking out of the bill. When anyone tries to debate the merits of progressive ideas , they immediately hold up their human shield and scream about the inhumanity of whoever is questioning an awful idea. Something happened along the way in politics: it became socially acceptable to use personal anecdotes about random Americans to push agendas. It’s depraved when either party does it, and while I understand that politics are personal, Democrats have taken it to a whole new level. Regardless of the consequences of elevating some poor family into the public eye and what might happen to them as a result, the Left makes an art out of finding and exploiting children and their families for political gain. Here’s a countdown of the 8 most despicable uses of children as political props and human shields. 8. Flowers and Nuclear Fallout: Meet Daisy Girl I was born in 1976 so it is a testimony to how powerful this commercial was that even I, born 12 years after its debut, had it seared into my memory. During the election when Lyndon Johnson ran against Barry Goldwater, Johnson and his fellow Democrats were getting desperate for a winning strategy. And when desperation sets in, the Left always turns to fear-mongering. In the following commercial, a beautiful little girl sits picking daisy petals counting the way toddlers do, out of order. Suddenly an ominous voice starts the countdown from 10 and the little girl freezes in terror. As the camera pans closer and closer to her eye the viewer sees a devastating nuclear explosion in the reflection of her iris. This political ad was intended to paint Goldwater as an extremist who would…I’m not sure…blow up little girls? It was disgusting then, and it’s disgusting when they do it now. Next, threatening to kill Barney if taxpayers don’t pony up more $$$…

Republicans Don’t Deserve Constitutional Freedoms?

Mar 26 2011 Published by under 2010 Elections, Congress

Frank Lautenberg One of the Left’s favorite tricks is to completely sidestep arguments that are made by attacking motivations. It works like so, Republican: There’s a hole in the side of the boat! We’ve got to fix it before we sink! Democrat: Yes, I agree, but you’re just saying that because you’re racist! Republican: Ok, so what we’ll do is….wait, what? Democrat: Racist! Republican: Ok, so you think I’m a racist. Can we fix the hole anyway? You agreed that we need to fix it! Democrat: I think instead of doing that, we need to talk about your hatred of black people! This continues on indefinitely, until the boat sinks. It’s no different with the budget. On the one hand, Democrats will agree that the size of the deficit is unsustainable. But, when it’s time to do something, we hear nonsense like this from Frank Lautenberg instead: … The Republicans in Congress claim they’re concerned about the budget balance, but it’s a disguise! It’s not true! It’s a lie! That’s not what they want. They want — they want other people not to be able to have their own opinions. They don’t deserve the freedoms that are in the Constitution! But we’ll give it to them anyway. Continue reading at Right Wing News .

Peter Beinart Spins Walker’s Conservative Victory as a Boon for Obama

Mar 14 2011 Published by under 2010 Elections

If it’s a day ending in “y,” that means it’s time for more crappy political advice from the Daily Beast’s Peter Beinart. Beinart’s kind of a one-trick pony on the subject—I’ve noted before how, no matter the situation, he advises Republicans not to govern like conservatives lest they face certain electoral doom (the right electoral strategy, coincidentally, happens to be to govern exactly like Peter Beinart would). Today, he argues that the Wisconsin GOP’s victory over public-sector unions will ultimately ensure a second term for Barack Obama : In 2010, Republicans successfully accused Obama of abetting the extremism of Nancy Pelosi. In 2012, Obama will ask Americans if they want a president who abets the extremism of Scott Walker . By so successfully shifting the ideological debate to the right, Republicans have reframed Obama as a man of the center. And by terrifying liberals, they are helping ensure that Obama gets the large Democratic base turnout he needs […] The 2012 Republican nominee will likely face the same problem. Embracing Scott Walker will alienate independents; rejecting him will alienate the conservative base. Parties usually win elections when their partisans are pragmatic enough to nominate candidates with crossover appeal but desperate enough to turn out for them nonetheless. Today’s GOP isn’t that kind of party. The Democrats, especially after last November, are. There are two major problems with Beinart’s analysis. First, if one’s stance on public-sector unions is to be our new barometer for “extremism,” comparing Obama and Walker is hardly an open-and-shut case, even on the Left’s own terms—consider that government employees at the federal level can’t collectively bargain over wages or benefits , whereas Walker’s bill still allows some bargaining over wages. Assuming the GOP’s next presidential nominee isn’t totally asleep at the switch (which, admittedly, isn’t all that safe an assumption ), he or she will challenge Obama on that very point. Second, the polls don’t look great on Walker’s policies right now, and whether or not they get any better will depend largely on whether or not he and other Republicans start doing a better job on the public relations front, but that’s certainly a winnable battle. You don’t need to be an “extremist” to be persuaded that private-sector unions have been steadily losing the membership of American workers , that teachers’ unions make schools worse in many ways , that only about half of the states give government employees broad collective bargaining rights , or that Walker’s bill still leaves public-sector workers pretty well off and prevents unions from extorting money out of teachers for partisan causes . The biggest deciding factor to the political fallout will be what effect the bill actually has…and whether or not the average people perceive that effect accurately. Sure, right now people have been whipped into a frenzy about “attacks” on the working class and the impending collapse of education as we know it. But there’s a big risk inherent in predicting the apocalypse—when the planet keeps on turning, people are usually gonna notice. Sure, the left-wing ideologues and union zombies will stick with Obama (no matter how many federal pay freezes he calls for), but conservatives never had them anyway. Among more moderate and truly independent voters (rather than people who simply call themselves “independent” because they think it sounds better than picking a side), there’s a greater risk that they’ll abandon the union ship the more they realize that perception and reality don’t match. That brings us back to the point about the PR war: Scott Walker and those who stand with him are hardly doomed to suffer the “extremist” label, but overcoming it will require the fortitude and savvy to counter left-wing propagandizing at every turn.  This battle’s a necessary one, and winnable, too—though victory will require the Right to bring its A-game.

Stuff Leftist People Like #21-30 (aka Top 10 Things Leftists Like Continued)

Jan 16 2011 Published by under 2010 Elections

Note: For the first two installments of this series, please see Top 10 Things Leftists Like (aka Stuff Leftist People Like #1-10) and Stuff Leftist People Like #11-20 ( aka Top 10 Things Leftists Like Continued ) . Two years ago, the satirical site Stuff White People Like (SWPL) debuted with the self-description: “This is a scientific approach to highlight and explain stuff white people like. They are pretty predictable.” Author Christian Lander released a book last year compiling the first 100 items in his list, and released a follow-up in November titled Whiter Shades of Pale: The Stuff White People Like, Coast to Coast, from Seattle’s Sweaters to Maine’s Microbrews . Copycat sites have sprung up since then, including Stuff Asian People Like , Stuff Black People Like , Stuff Latino People Like , and Stuff Queer People Like . Though Lander’s write-ups are insightful and entertaining, there’s one problem: too many of the items in his list constitute stuff leftist white people like. For example, Lander offers the entries: Being Offended, Bumper Stickers, Non-Profit Organizations, Picking Their Own Fruit, Political Prisoners, Public Radio, Taking a Year Off, The Sunday New York Times , The World Cup, Threatening to Move to Canada, and Unpaid Internships. This is to say nothing of more obvious entries such as: Barack Obama , Diversity, Free Healthcare, Hating Corporations, Recycling, The Daily Show /Colbert Report, Toyota Prius, Vegan/Vegetarianism, and Whole Foods and Grocery Co-ops. In the spirit of SWPL, and to extend the tradition for the amusement of those on the Right, I hereby continue “Stuff Leftist People Like”: #21: Calling Everything Torture According to the Left, picking up enemy combatants off the battlefield in Afghanistan and keeping them on a tropical island where they get fitness classes, Internet access, H1N1 vaccinations, and mango chutney chicken for dinner is torture. Splashing water on the faces of high-level terrorists, leaving their lights on at night, and putting a caterpillar in their cells violates the Geneva Convention. The Left thinks that by repeating, “We are not a nation that condones torture. We have higher standards than that,” they can fool people into thinking acts that aren’t torture are really torture, or that they have higher ethical standards than conservatives. Recently the Left sunk to a new low by claiming that Pfc. Bradley Manning, alleged to have supplied WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange with the thousands of classified cables released to the public last year, was being “tortured” simply because he was in solitary confinement. How about this for torture? When President Obama promised to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in civilian court in lower Manhattan, he apparently didn’t care that in the same court in which KSM was to be tried, bin Laden aide Mamdouh Salim, while awaiting trial several years ago for his role in the bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, blinded a prison guard by squirting hot sauce in his face, then plunged a comb sharpened into a dagger deep into the guard’s eye, nearly killing him and causing permanent brain and sight damage. That, Mr. Obama, is torture. Next: The party that thinks alike, stinks alike…

The obligatory “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” parody

Dec 16 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections, Congress

Every You Down in You-ville Liked Tax-Cuts a lot… But the Wench, Who was far left of You-ville, Did NOT! The Wench hated Tax-Cuts! There would be no pleasin’ The Yous. Don’t ask why; no one quite knows the reason. It could be that her head wasn’t screwed on quite right. It could be, perhaps, that her face was too tight. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that her heart was two sizes too small. But, Whatever the reason, Her face or her heart, She stood with her gavel and said with a start, “The Yous have their money; they earned it, it’s true, But I shan’t let any money be controlled by a You!” “The government knows what is best,” said the Wench, Ignoring all government programs’ bad stench. “It’s been nearly ten years since that evil George Bush Sent Tax-Cuts through Congress with a great big push.” “They’re set to expire,” the Wench said with delight. “But the Keynesian gave up with barely a fight.” And she frowned. The Wench frowned. Yes she frowned. Frowned. Frowned. Frowned. She frowned and she stomped all around on the ground. The GOP had won a battle it seemed. An agreement had been reached with the White House that deemed That the Tax-Cuts would stay for another two years. The thought of that brought the Wench so close to tears. She snarled and she fumed and she said “This won’t stand. The Yous’ money is mine.” And she needed a plan. She’s plotting and planning and scheming right now. She wants to kill all the Tax-Cuts. But how? Unlike the Grinch of the Seuss tale years ago, The Wench’s cold heart still refuses to grow. She wants to kill Tax-Cuts and pillage your wallet. Remember in 2012 at the ballot!
