*Yawn* So What’s Angering Islamic Radicals Now?

Sep 09 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

The imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has warned that moving the Ground Zero mosque could spur radicals . Also, they’d probably have to come up with another name than “Ground Zero mosque”. While I can’t dispute the second point, I wonder about the first. I mean, really, with all the things going on, that’s what’s going to spur on radicals now? It’s funny how we can go over to the Middle East and blow stuff up and shoot Muslims, and we expect them to get along with us still because they’re kinda used to that, but it’s the Koran burning or Muhammad cartoons that will really anger the Muslims over there and supposedly turn them into rabid badgers but less rational. And now I guess the mosque moving would anger them too. Soon we’ll have radicals over there shouting, “Kill the mosque movers! They have moved a mosque, so they must die! Out of the 3,794,101 square miles of the U.S., there are a couple of blocks where they don’t want a mosque built so we must behead them!” I think I speak for everyone who doesn’t suck when I say who cares what the Islamic radicals want? Isn’t that why we make those de-radicalizers so we can do what we want in America without worrying about what stupid violent people think about it? You know, de-radicalizers — I think some people call them “rifles”.

Mayor Bloomberg Insulted You on The Daily Show

Sep 01 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

The Daily Show is on another break. Seriously, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have got the life. They have writers and producers that get paid to help them be funny and do all the leg-work for the show, they’re rich, they’re famous, and it seems like they get a vacation week once per month. I really wish capitalism didn’t enable the higher social classes to oppress me so much. But, Mayor Bloomberg’s interview with Jon Stewart irked me so much that I’m still thinking about it and I’ve just gotta let it out. He felt that the Ground Zero mosque controversy is just a matter of politics and that it’ll go away after the November elections. In other words, he thinks the critics are so irrational that the only plausible reason for their opposition is politics. This is downright insulting. Watch the interview below: The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c Michael Bloomberg www.thedailyshow.com Daily Show Full Episodes Political Humor Tea Party Bloomberg doesn’t mention any of the real arguments against the Islamic center project. He frames it as a debate between those who believe in freedom of religion and those who don’t. There is no mention of the Cordoba Institute’s suspicious connections and the concerning statements made by Imam Rauf. And again, most of the critics (including myself) aren’t saying that Muslims can’t build there, we’re just saying they shouldn’t . They have the right, but that doesn’t make every usage of that right acceptable. The mayor shouldn’t think that those that disagree with him on this are simply anti-Muslim bigots, hyper-partisans or idiots. And by the way, Mayor Bloomberg, every poll shows a firm majority of the American public are against the Park51 project. One poll found 68 percent oppose it and that includes 70 percent of Independents like Bloomberg himself. So, Mayor Bloomberg, remind me again. What did you say about what’s motivating 68 percent of the American people? And don’t say you were only criticizing the political leaders leading the charge—because then you’re calling us all fools with sheep mentality.

Shocking Ad Blames Ground Zero Mosque Opponents for Cab Driver Stabbing

Aug 27 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

Who knew all those politicians had it out for this guy? Just when you thought claims of Islamaphobia couldn’t get any worse, things just got a lot nastier.  It is almost hard to fathom, but a Leftist non-profit organization is now blaming every politician who didn’t do back flips for the mosque at Ground Zero for the stabbing of a Muslim cab driver.  The group even made a video presenting their insanity. In case you missed it, Ahmed Sharif, a cabbie in Manhattan was stabbed pretty badly by 21-year old Michael Enright this week.  Countless press outlets and organizations immediately began to connect the act of violence with the protests against the Cordoba House mosque at Ground Zero.  An organization known as Agenda Project are the worst offenders of such a leap of logic and basic reasoning.  The group was founded by a former DNC staffer and has put out a web ad blaming politicians from both parties for the stabbing. “By creating, perpetrating, or condoning a national atmosphere of hatred and fear; politicians of both parties are directly responsible for the attack on this man and for the increasing violence against Muslims across the country.” – Agenda Project That claim is beyond senseless for several reasons. 1. It is idiotic to claim that being against a location for a mosque because of sensitivity to victims of 9-11 and an understanding of how Radical Islamists would view the building as a victory, somehow means you are creating an atmosphere of hatred and fear.  And to take it so far as to blame  concerned people for a separate act of violence is harmful and pathetic. 2. There is absolutely zero proof that there is increasing violence against Muslims in this country.  The only violence against Muslims that is increasing in America is by other Muslims when it comes to ‘honor’ killings and ‘honor’ violence.  In fact, do you want to know how many reported cases of violence against Muslims are by people acting out against Islam?  The most recent FBI stats come from 2008 and they list only 123 acts of anti-Islam crimes.  Compare that to over 1,000 against Jews just for being Jewish.  And New York city police are reporting no uptick in anti-Islam violence. 3. The Muslim cabbie attacker, Michael Enright has no connection with anti-Islam or even anti-Mosque groups.  In fact, he belongs to a church group that is officially supporting the building of the Cordoba House.  So far the only reasoning that can be found for Enright’s attack was a visit he made to Afghanistan where he felt like Afghan people were not respecting what the US soldiers had done for them.  I wonder if Agenda Project is ready to blame US troops for Sharif being stabbed now. The Agenda Project group should be ashamed of themselves.  Propaganda like their video helps nothing and only hurts people.  If this is the tolerance that the Mosque is supposed to bring us, then let none of us have any remaining doubt that it should be built somewhere else. ________________________________ Paul Cooper is a husband and father above all else.  With a wife and 2 daughters he could use a dog, but sadly he only owns a cat – a female cat no less.  Paul is also a pastor,  blogger , and  business owner .  Find him on   Twitter .

Journalistic Malpractice: Time Magazine, ‘Does America Have a Muslim Problem?’

Aug 25 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

I’ve not published anything about the Ground Zero Mosque controversy, simply because I’m still trying to think about it in a detached and objective manner. As a strong proponent of religious liberty, I can see the reasonableness of the pro-Mosque position. But as someone who will never forget what happened on September 11, 2001 — the consequence of Islamic terrorists putting their beliefs into practice — I fully understand the objections raised against the Mosque. However, when a magazine like Time attempts to paint one side of the debate as consisting of nothing more than bigots moved by an irrational fear, I see Rhetorical McCarthyism. It is a shameful and undemocractic way to conduct a discussion in a Constitutional republic, since its purpose is to end the discussion rather than to advance it, to shut people up rather than to treat them with equal respect and dignity. It is the plagiarized cultural cliff notes of the intellectually lazy . — Francis J. Beckwith, Return to Rome , “ My Rhetorical McCarthyism Beats Your Islamophobia.” If I was contemplating teaching a seminar on ideological bias in the contemporary press, Time Magazine ‘s recent cover story on the Ground Zero mosque controversy would be hard to beat. And keeping with dead tree media ethics, the full article’s available only in print. Perhaps the editors were hoping to avoid a savage thrashing at the hands of bloggers. I started reading the essay at my son’s orthodontist’s, then finished it at Barnes and Noble on the way home (no way would I fork over cash for such a pathetic hatchet job, sheesh). There’s absolutely no mention of or engagement with any of the arguments Mega Mosque opponents have offered. And at one point the piece argues that Imam Rauf and Daisy Khan are leaders of the U.S. Muslim community’s “interfaith outreach.” The only problem, of course, is that throughout the controversy the developers have shunned any dialogue with “interfaith” critics of the project. And then there’s this passage, available at the homepage : You don’t have to be prejudiced against Islam to believe, as many Americans do, that the area around Ground Zero is a sacred place. But sadly, in an election season, such sentiments have been stoked into a political issue. As the debate has grown more heated, Park51, as the proposed Muslim cultural center and mosque two blocks from Ground Zero is called, has become a litmus test for everything from private-property rights to religious tolerance. But it is plain that many of Park51′s opponents are motivated by deep-seated Islamophobia That’s blanket condemnation. And it’s too bad. I’d be perfectly happy to condemn outright hatred and bigotry toward Muslims (and I have at American Power). But folks are barking up the wrong tree with Pamela Geller. Mostly, she’s just doing a fabulous job at calling these people out. Leftists don’t like it, and they’re lashing out the only way they know how: with allegations of RAAAACISM! From the Imam’s excoriation of the United States to Little Miss Daisy’s Islamic anti-Semitism, the Cordoba developers are offering up a whole lotta fodder for opponents. And as you have the press so completely in the tank — and so oblivious to the manifestly non-bridge-building aims of the initiative — it’s no surprise that conservatives are even more outraged at the shameless indignity of building a jihadi worship center on sacred ground. Americans are not prejudiced against Muslims . It’s more likely that the families of the fallen themselves, and their grassroots supporters, are now subject to a broad-based pattern of harassment and discrimination, from the White House all the way down to the communists on the streets screaming anti-Semitic epithets at the “ Jewish Zionist ” state. Red Eye, Rauf and – Oh Yeah! – Racism

Aug 25 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

Time needs a new editor. I suggest this guy. Comedian Jim Norton , frequent “ Red Eye ” guest, took over hosting duties for the latest episode while Greg Gutfeld remained on vacation. Norton entertained guests – Lauren Sivan , S.E. Cupp and Anothony Cumia – with his offbeat humor and self-deprecation. The cast and friends discussed such topics as The Situation’s earning power, enhanced screening techniques at airports, a dating site in the UK dedicated to ugly people and Time Magazine’s upcoming cover story: “Is America Islamophobic?” We all know when the mainstream media asks a question like that, what they really mean is: why does everyone who doesn’t agree with us suck so much? The reason for Time’s article is the ongoing debate over the Ground Zero Mosque and rising tensions on both sides, by which they mean peace loving leftists and heartless, white bigots. As Norton pointed out on the show, America has certainly had tolerance problems in the past, but it doesn’t stand to reason we are being intolerant now. He continued by saying that, when the most recent attempted bombing of Times Square occurred, everyone immediately suspected an Islamic terrorist. Only NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg thought it might be someone really dangerous, like a person who opposed healthcare reform. How many terrorist attacks have been carried out by rabid, ObamaCare hating Tea Party members in, oh, ever? “Bloomberg,” Norton concluded, “is so spineless, he makes [Nancy] Pelosi seem like Idi Amin.” Daisy Khan, wife of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf , recently stated in an interview that the opposition of the mosque and rising anti-Islam sentiment is “metastasized anti-Semitism.” It’s not even Islamophobic. It’s beyond Islamophobic. It’s hate of Muslims. The Time magazine article mentioned by Norton cites public perception of Islam as examples of Islamophobia.
