Ukraine Discusses Energy and Trade Ties with EU

Ukraine and the EU agreed to cooperate on modernizing Ukraine’s gas transport system, which transits 141 billion cubic meters of gas into Europe annually. Ukraine has also proposed a cooperation project with Russia, however the two sides have been unable to get past Gazprom’s ambitions to merge with Ukraine’s Naftogaz. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was in Brussels to push for a free-trade agreement and visa-free travel regime with the EU, meeting with the president of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy, and Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission. The stalled deals would represent the first step in what could eventually be a gradual integration into the union, although both sides have downgraded EU membership as a priority.

How many poor people have progressives starved since 1917? It’s a good question and somebody should do the research and publish it. Russia was the breadbasket of Europe until progressives seized power in that year and started instituting policies to “share the wealth.” For the next 70 years until socialism collapsed, Russia was a net importer of food always on the brink of famine. In the 1930s, Stalin instigated a calculated famine in the Ukraine to rid himself of approximately 10 million political enemies. His crime was protected by the progressives at the New York Times and on the Pulitzer Prize Committee (they control both institutions to this day). Because soft progressives cover for hard-line progressives like Stalin, Castro and other political monsters — preferring to demonize George Bush and John Ashcroft instead — these atrocities continue. The left’s inability to understand the most basic economic fact — that people need an incentive to produce — has caused the unnecessary deaths of tens of millions of people — mostly poor — in the last 75 years. But thanks to a politically corrupted media and educational system, their pig-headed pursuit of socialist fantasies goes on. – Present from Progressives: Starvation – If you have a favorite Horowitz quote you want to highlight for others then click here to submit . EU Lukewarm on Ukrainian Gas Reform Law

Jul 28 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

The EU cautiously welcomed a Ukrainian law on gas sector reform as a first step toward more effective reform. The EU Commission and international lenders have been pushing for reforms that would strengthen Ukraine’s economy and put a focus on energy-saving measures, while also reducing Kyiv’s energy dependence on Russia. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych signed a law on regional elections that some critics say give his Regions Party an advantage in the polling. The late-October local elections will be the first test of the president’s popularity and are expected to be followed by austerity measures, such as raising energy prices, in order to secure IMF funding.
