Venerable Actor Jon Voight Calls Out “Time” Magazine’s Anti-Semitic Bias

Sep 16 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

Early this summer, The Washington Times published an open letter from actor and political activist Jon Voight to President Barack Obama . In no uncertain terms, Voight criticized the administration’s posture toward Israel. Along with the admiration of conservatives, this public gesture earned Voight a top spot among NRB’s recent list of conservative men in Hollywood . Now, Voight has turned his ire against Time magazine, calling the publication anti-Semitic for recent cover stories critical of the United States and Israel. “This is anti-Semitism,” Voight said of the Sep. 13 edition , which features a Star of David and the cover line, “Why Israel Doesn’t Care About Peace.” Voight said, “Who are the anti-Semites who are running Time Magazine?” The politically active actor, who supports the Tea Party and conservative candidates, then attacked Time’s August 30 cover that asks: “Is America Islamophobic?” “They’re calling America Islamophobic. Well, this is exactly the way that we create wars between nations,” Voight said. Voight’s criticism of Time is warranted. The cover stories to which he refers are replete with demagoguery disguised as tolerant human interest. In paragraph after paragraph, writers Karl Vick and Bobby Ghosh paint opposition to and criticism of Islam as senseless bigotry and presume moral equivalence between the mandates of all faiths. They do so conveniently absent an examination of Islam, assuming the faith’s nature and paradigm to be analogous to any other, and floating the requisite “all religions can be taken out of context” nonsense.

Sudan Rejects U.S. Incentives on Referendum

Sep 16 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

Sudan rejected on principle incentives offered by the United States to ensure that a planned referendum on South Sudan’s independence moves forward on time. The referendum, slated for January of next year, is part of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the North and South in order to end civil war in 2005. Incentives offered by the U.S. included normalization of strained relations, reducing Sudan’s debts, lifting sanctions imposed on the country, as well as other diplomatic incentives.

Man up . . . or is it man down?

Sep 15 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

Bob Maistros TV commercial scene . . . a hot-looking female bartender serving young male customer: “When you’re ready to take off your skirt, I’ll serve you a real light beer. “Of course, I understand why you’re feeling a little emasculated.  There’s about a one in four chance that you were raised by a single mother.  Three-quarters of your teachers were women, even though studies show boys learn better from men.  Your schools were set up for girls to succeed – you were more likely to be medicated than motivated. Man up? What for? “It’s no wonder that you were probably outnumbered 3 to 2 by women on your college campus – not to mention that for the first time ever, more women are earning doctoral degrees than men. “The recession has hit men harder than women, and we’re gaining on you in nearly every profession.  As younger man, for the first time your girlfriend is probably earning more than you, making your prospects for marriage bleak.  If you do get married, you’ll find her making many if not most of the household’s economic decisions.  And once you do progress in the workforce, you will likely be passed over for promotions in favor of women thanks to affirmative action. “Not to mention that politically, this is the Year of the Woman.  Women are winning high-profile nominations, and the biggest kingmaker – or should I say queenmaker? – is a ‘mama grizzly.’ America’s most powerful woman, the one who pushed healthcare reform through when no one gave her a chance, is the female Speaker of the House. The Secretary who will oversee the humongous healthcare bureaucracy and promulgate the bill’s voluminous regulations is – yeah – a woman. “And when Time magazine featured the ‘New Sheriffs of Wall Street’ – all female – in a cover story, it quoted none other than the Treasury Secretary of the United States suggesting that we will do a better job running the economy. “Not to mention that you’re bombarded from Hollywood by the message that you aren’t really necessary.  Women can have and raise children without you.  All in all, it looks like your future is to be little more than a sperm bank. “So maybe it’s a little unfair to expect you to ‘man up’ when the rest of the world is telling you to cower, grovel and submit.  I should cut you a break.  Do you want that real beer now?” “Nah.  At this point, I’m thinking I probably need at least two.”

Christine O’Donnell wins in Delaware: Will conservative activists be proud of themselves in November?

Sep 15 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections, Congress, Senate

Dan Calabrese Christine O’Donnell has inspired songs of joy in the hearts of “true conservatives” tonight by winning Delaware’s Republican Senate primary. O’Donnell defeated moderate Republican Congressman Mike Castle by a count of 53 percent to 47 percent. Conservative activists hate Castle, with some good reasons, particularly his support of Cap and Trade legislation. And despite the fact that polls show Castle could have easily defeated Democrat Chris Coon – and O’Donnell will have a very difficult time winning – they went all out for O’Donnell. The leading celebrities in the conservative movement, including Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Sen. Jim DeMint, came out for O’Donnell. Your nominee. All this, of course, in spite of the fact that O’Donnell shows every indication of being a train wreck of a candidate. She has a history of financial problems. She has come off extremely badly in interviews. She has a very spotty employment history. She has given answers of questionable accuracy about her education record. And I don’t know about you, but something doesn’t seem quite right to me about a person with such an unimpressive personal history who has nonetheless run for the United States Senate not once, not twice but three times. But that’s neither here nor there. Christine O’Donnell is now the Republican nominee for Delaware’s open U.S. Senate seat. If Castle had been the nominee, all indications are that he would have won the seat easily. With O’Donnell, the GOP faces very long odds. Now, two questions: 1. The GOP needs to pick up 10 seats to gain control of the Senate. That’s a very tall order, but polls show it’s possible this year. Extremely difficult, but possible. If the gain is nine, because O’Donnell loses in Delaware, and as a result Charles Schumer is the new Senate Majority Leader, just how proud of themselves will conservative activists be for having supported O’Donnell in the primary? 2. What makes anyone so sure that O’Donnell is a “true conservative”? Because she says so? What has she ever done to prove it? She’s never served in public office before. She’s never crafted legislation. She’s never shepherded legislation through to passage. She has no public record whatsoever. The people so determined to get behind O’Donnell are taking her totally at her word. She’s never done a single thing to prove she is worthy of their trust, but they’ve made up their minds that she is the real deal, and they believe in her so much that they’re willing to hand this seat to the Democrats just to prove a point. I hope they’re proud of themselves in November. Become Dan’s friend on Facebook . Become a fan of The North Star National on Facebook . Buy Dan’s novel, Powers and Principalities. Red Eye: Gay Saudi Seeks Asylum, Rauf Silent

Sep 14 2010 Published by under 2010 Elections

Protesting a mosque makes Feisal Rauf sad. Gay muslims being killed? Not so much. On the most recent episode of “ Red Eye ,” host Greg Gutfeld and guests discussed a Saudi diplomat asking for political asylum in the United States as his government has discovered he is gay and also has a Jewish, female friend. The diplomat now fears for his life. Ground Zero Mosque Imam and lover of peace, Feisal Abdul Rauf , immediately condemned the Saudi government as bigoted and warned of a violent homosexual backlash should the diplomat’s request not be granted. Except, of course, he totally didn’t. According to British news site, Mail Online The diplomat, which NBC identified as Ali Ahmad Asseri, the first secretary of the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles, reportedly told U.S. federal officials that Saudi officials refused to renew his diplomatic passport and terminated his job after they discovered that he was gay and was close friends with a Jewish woman. ‘My life is in a great danger here and if I go back to Saudi Arabia, they will kill me openly in broad daylight,’ Asseri told NBC in an email message. Asseri posted a letter on a Saudi website criticizing his country’s ‘backwardness’ as well as the role of ‘militant imams’ that have ‘defaced the tolerance of Islam,’ NBC said. A member of a foreign government is claiming he will be murdered if he returns home, and that “militant imams” have enough control of the country to enforce these backward rules. Meanwhile, important sociopolitical commenter, Lady Gaga, is protesting America’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy regarding gays serving openly in the military. Because nothing says “accept gay people” more than a dress made out of meat . Have people gone completely insane? As Gutfeld astutely pointed out (and I paraphrase due to lack of DVR) I would like our activists to stand up [for gays] in other countries. Talk about what happens there. According to the Left , peaceful protests of a mosque are bigoted and hateful. Being against gay marriage or gays serving openly in the military is bigoted and hateful. Threatening violent Muslim backlash when it’s convenient is just fine. Kill a gay Arab? No problem. It’s just their culture . If the mainstream media can speak out against conservative Americans with such vitriol for daring to stand peacefully for their most fundamental beliefs, why can’t they muster one whit of self-righteous anger toward countries where human rights abuses are the status quo? Clip the clitorises of young African women? Meh. Burn a book? Death to evil Christian radicals! The moral relativism stops. Now. If it is wrong to discriminate against gay people, then killing them is worse. If protesting a potential building is wrong, then flying planes into real ones is worse. I would much rather live in a country where the biggest social problem is whether or not to allow gay marriage than one where I might be hung by the neck from a tree. Apparently, so would at least one Saudi diplomat, not to mention countless Muslim immigrants and refugees who flock here to partake of our freedoms. I hope Asseri is granted asylum, if only so we have one prominent Muslim voice willing to speak openly about the horrors committed in the name of Allah. As “Red Eye” guest Jim Norton stated with regard to Saudi Arabia Why is that horrible country one of our closest allies? They stink. They’re barbaric! Of course, Norton is white and probably a conservative. Therefore, he’s obviously a racist homophobe. No matter he’s actually right. I am one small blogger, and these posts are my peaceful, American backlash. There will be many more to come. — Chris Barnhart is a conservative social and political blogger .
